Do not compromise for cheap Canvas Stretchers Bars or face wrapping
The
canvas you use stretches over the Canvas
Stretcher Frame using stretcher pliers. After the required stretch
is obtained in each corner wedges or keys are tapped with a hammer. This is to
adjust and stretch your canvas as and when it sags. You can get Canvas Stretcher bars made from a
variety of wood types. Some are made from good quality wood while others are
not. Stretchers are mostly available in standard sizes but if you wish,
custom-made bars too can be got from some suppliers.
Most
of the UK Stretcher Bars are
made from Pinewood. You need to keep in mind that this wood also has grades.
Some come with knots and a lot of defects than the others. Most of the artists
prefer using pine Canvas Stretcher
Bars for they are cost effective too. If you are using a large
canvas, warping or bowing is inevitable if you don’t use crossbars or braces to
stabilize the Canvas Stretcher
Frame. For a 30” x 30” size you have to use crossbars.
